Internships

An internship is required for all logistics majors. Marketing majors may also receive degree plan credit for a logistics internship. Don't wait: contact Dr. Pohlen as soon as you declare your major to be sure you meet all of the requirements and get the direction and help you need!

What is Expected of the Student

Your internship should be used to gain valuable work experience and increase your knowledge in the field of your major. It is a good idea to seek a position in a firm or industry where you have an interest in possible permanent employment and where you will gain desired competencies.

You must submit a résumé to Dr. Terry Pohlen or Ms. Beth Kent prior to beginning your search for an internship. The attached guidelines and directions will expedite the approval process. E-mail your résumé as an attached MS Word file. You cannot receive approval for an internship obtained prior to the approval of your résumé.

After your résumé is approved, you may begin your search for an internship by:

  1. Registering with the Cooperative Education and Internship office located in Marquis Hall, Room 208.
  2. Looking for a position that is listed with the Cooperative Education and Internship Office.  All internship listings obtained by the faculty or through the department office are listed with the co-op office.
  3. Or, begin a search on your own with the firms you have targeted.  You may not receive internship credit for a current job or position unless you will have a substantially different responsibility.
  4. The internship must be with a business located in a commercial business space.

Once you have obtained an internship position  (subject to Dr. Pohlen's approval as noted below) proceed to the Cooperative Education Office (Marquis Hall, Room 208) and request the Logistics Internship Notebook. Included in this notebook are the forms and information necessary to begin the enrollment process for your internship
